2006 Best of the US Triathlon Championship

America's best amateur triathletes gathered September 16, 2006, one man and one woman who qualified to represent their home state, to race for Individual and Fastest State Team honors. Georgia's David Silver (9th in 2005), who is having a breakout year, including the amateur win at Escape From Alcatraz, prevailed, with Maryland's Philippe Kozub and last year's Champion Christopher Martin of New Jersey following for 2nd and 3rd. Lt. Col. Heidi Grimm of New York State (3rd a year ago) ran away with the race, besting Florida's Lotte Branigan (who was 3rd at World just a week before) by over 3 minutes. Third place went to Tracy Orcutt of Washington State. Team Alaska led Team Colorado and Team Minnesota for the top 3 Fastest States.
