2009 ITU Duathlon World Championship

On September 26, 2009, Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina - the birthplace of NASCAR, gave way to elite and age group duathletes from across the globe.

Vendula Frintova of the Czech Republic won the Women's Championship in 2:18:18.

American Olympian Jarrod Shoemaker won in 1:49:02 despite being involved in a crash on lap 5 of the bike course and exiting T2 with a 20 second deficit. with 2-1/2 Km to go Jarrod pulled up to 4th place and in the last 100 meters, it was a shoulder to shoulder sprint with Frenchman, Damien Derobert for the World Championship!
