2007 LIfe Time Fitness Triathlon
With $500,000 in prize s on the line, over 40 of the world's top elite professional male and female triathletes competed head to head. Extreme heat and humidity added to the athletes' stress.
After several podium finishes, Austrailian Greg Bennett put in a course record performance to win the $60,000 Men's first prize as well as a $60,000 Series win bonus and a near perfect race day. Portugal's Venessa Fernandes won the women's event with a lead of 39 seconds over Emma Snowsill.
St. Paul's David Thompson relied on his herculean cycling skills--his 54:53 was 1:41 faster than Bruno Pais's 2nd fastest split--to finish 6th (earning $4000) against an Olympic-caliber field. Apple Valley's Cathy Yndestad won the accompanying Elite Amateur women's race for the second straight year. Congratulations to all athletes and to Life Time Fitness for another spectacular event.
