Memorial Hermann 70.3 Texas 2011

April 10, 2011 (Galveston, Texas) American Chris Lieto and Scotland's Catriona Morrison celebrated victories at today's Memorial Hermann Ironman 70.3 Texas. Lieto and Morrison crossed the finish line in 3:45:37 and 4:06:43, respectively.

John Flanagan (USA) exited the water first and was followed by a pack including Rasmus Henning, Frederik Van Lierde, Terenzo Bozzone and Timothy O'Donnell.

Slightly before mile 15, with a big smile on his face, Lieto pulled out in front of the rest of the pack. Known for his strong cycling, Lieto continued to expand his lead through the remainder of the bike course. O'Donnell, who entered the run six minutes back from Lieto, ran a 1:12:21 half-marathon, following Henning who took second.

Americans Mary Beth Ellis led out of the swim with Meredith Kessler, and Kelly Williamson forty-five seconds behind. By the bike turnaround, Swiss cycling powerhouse Karin Thuerig arrived in fourth place, making up six minutes on Ellis during the first half of the bike course. By mile 40, she burst into first place, before posting an impressive 2:12:24 course time. Cat Morrison was just a minute behind Thuerig coming into T2. By the end of the first run loop, Morrison moved into first, soon gaining a 20-second lead on Thuerig and Naeth. Going through mile 12, Morrison lengthened her distance and turned in the fastest women's run of the day, 1:18:19.
